Today’s uplift: Let’s get Delivered from Functioning Dysfunctional!

Definition of Dysfunction: not operating normally or properly: synonyms: troubled · distressed · unsettled · upset · distraught · unbalanced · unstable · disordered · maladjusted · ill-adjusted, emotionally confused · unhinged · deviating from the norms of social behavior in a way regarded as bad.

Finding your strength; finding your voice and keeping your faith!

When you’ve been dysfunctional for a long time dysfunction is your normal function. In this season you must let your feelings be indicators not dictators! Don’t let your feeling lead you! You must be led by the Word of God especially if you can’t trust your feelings. Finding your strength is crucial in this moment in time! You must find the strength just to be strong for yourself! You haven’t quit which tells me that deep down you have the strength and you want better. But before the truth of your dysfunction can set you free you must recognize which lie is holding you hostage! This is where you must keep your faith that the Holy Spirit will perfect those things which concern you! Ask and it shall be given to you!

In this stage you must have discipline to journey through the process. You see the process propels you into your purpose. But your discipline must be stronger than you desire, because desire can pull you back. If you’re honest with yourself some parts of being dysfunctional didn’t feel so bad to you. That’s why you must be committed to the change in order to make the change, in other words you must be “sick and tired of being sick and tired”!

Change is difficult and it can be uncomfortable, but you have to be comfortable being uncomfortable! Because when the pain of staying the same is greater than the pain of change you will change! Don’t fear change, fear not growing! You have to find the strength and find a way to get out of your own way!

Sometimes God will prune you to bloom you! You have to have a mind shift and learn to appreciate what we are blessed with i.e. You have a voice, you have a purpose and He has plans for you! Take your pruning and bloom! Bloom into happiness! You have to find the beauty in life again. All things are not bad! Start looking for those positive things; those small things which are really big things.

3 things to take away:

1) Evaluation – You must evaluate yourself without fear or shame. (A check up for the neck up on a regular basis) Know where you are dysfunctional and make the change.

2) Elevate – You must Elevate your thinking (Turn up your thinking) Stop putting limits on God! He’s not in our box!

3) Educate – You must get Educated about your triggers!

These three things will help you know when you need help, ask for the help and have the mindset to embrace the help and make the changes necessary for growth! Amen!! Feed your faith and starve your fears!

Faith in God means Faith in His timing and His will. Sometime God will show you the road and not the road map. The Word tells us that Obedience is better than sacrifice! The sacrifice in knowing what to expect, the sacrifice of knowing the plan; the sacrifice of trusting God while just learning to trust yourself! And I mean trusting Him unconditionally. Obedience without incentive”. This is when you are growing into wholeness; when you can say “God I know your ways are higher than my ways but I’m going to raise my standards to meet your expectation of me! I’m willing to change because Jesus was willing to die for me!

I pinned some time ago that “Your body is a temple, not a visitor center! By giving honor to your temple, you honor God. (I Cor 6:19) You must change your lifestyle to line up with Godly standards! You may not even see this right now for yourself, but sometimes you have to talk your own self into your deliverance; FAITH – believing what you don’t see. WE ask the Holy Spirit to help us with this faith walk; we must want to live right, think right, be right just because He is God and He is right! We know that it’s in Him that we live, and move and have our very being! Meaning He will do what’s best for us when we have enough faith to live as He has called us to live.

Sure we have plans but “Pray first and then make your plan; don't plan and then pray for your plan to work! His plans for you are already blessed! We have to trust that Pslm 37:23 is going to do exactly what it said and that is to order our steps! You must find peace in His will for your life and then follow Him without questioning and asking “God what are you doing? Your faith unlocks favor as it did for Abraham!

When you can’t face it, you can faith it! Speak faith over fear; faith over what you deemed as failure! Don’t reject God’s provision just because it didn’t look like your preference! Your faith can turn your failures into fertilizer! Everything you touch will be blessed! You home will be blessed, you children will be blessed, your thinking will be blessed because your faith affirms that you will have solutions because you are a Kings Kid!

Your life has a functioning purpose! Your story is important, your dreams count, your voice matters and you were born to make an impact! Never shrink back in the shadows for anyone! You are His daughter! You are royalty and You Are Unique! There is no-one in the world quite like you. Your personality, your interests, your skills and talents, your memories, your background and your DNA – all of those are combined to make one very special person, You. You are a one of a kind with gift! So if you don’t do you, who will? Who will do what God told, built and instructed you to do? So with this I say “Do YOU! Get out of that rut of being dysfunctional and come up to the throne of functionality!

God wants to take us, and transform us, by working from the inside out, to do something powerful on this earth. If we're going to overcome dysfunction and succeed at being who He created us to be, we can't continue to be afraid of what everybody else may think OR OF WHAT WE THINK. God created us to accomplish His purposes. Amen!! Galatians 2:20 “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”

There are so many things in our lives that can be solved by simply making a quality decision to be better and to do better. It’s something everyone can do! First, dive into the Word and find out what belongs to you in Christ Jesus. Then begin to see yourself according to God’s Word. See yourself making those firm, concrete decisions. See yourself the way God sees you…. functioning! Decide in advance that no matter what happens, you are going to choose Jesus and His Word instead of what your dysfunctional circumstances say. Have Tenacious Faith that you will no longer live dysfunctional!

Tenacious faith is exhibited profoundly in the testimony of the woman with the issue of blood (Matthew 9:20). The Bible tells us that she was sick for 12 years. We don't know at what rate blood drained out of her body, but we do know that blood is life. Surely, her faith was tested as she felt the very life drain out of her.

But, according to the Bible, she kept saying to herself, "If I only touch His garment, I shall be restored to health" (Matthew 9:21). Her declarations of divine truth built her faith and determination above her natural circumstances, which kept her going to the point of receiving complete healing. Touching the hem of Jesus' garment brings perfect restoration to people (Matthew 14:36). But we must journey forth, reach out and connect and want more for our lives, for our families and for our community.

Dysfunctional but Functioning

I watched an old movie the other evening and the Holy Spirit impressed this analogy on my heart. The movie was The Titanic. He showed me how the ship was functioning, but it was dysfunctional! Like we try to function in a dysfunctional state.

The Titanic sank due to a chain of events, not just one. Which is also how we sink. You know how they say “it was the straw that broke the camel’s back! It’s that one more small thing that we think we can handle in our already over the top dysfunctional lives! Remember the synonyms from earlier – unsettled, unbalanced, disordered!

Just like our lives the Titanic weighed over 46,000 tons’. We also carry too much weight from the cares and the burdens of life. But His word told us to cast our cares on Him. But we try to carry all that weight and still function. Pslm 55:22 says “Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.

The Titanic was traveling way too fast. You know that sounds like us! We try to fit it all in and never stop to breathe! Some of us don’t stop to give time for the Holy Spirit to give us direction and guidance. Mark 6:31 says, “Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to [His disciples], ‘Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest. It is difficult, if not impossible, for us to hear God’s still, quiet voice over the roar of our self-made crowds, so, like Jesus, we must make time to rest and hear from our Lord.

There weren’t enough life boats - Not enough Word in us to save us. We can only pull out what is already there! We can’t wait for pastor to give us a Word on Sunday when Mon-Friday we are heading for an iceberg and going to crash. We have to have the Word to put on any situation at any given time. II Timothy 3:14-17 says 14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, 15 and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

And it ignored the warnings. You know like we ignore the Holy Spirit’s guiding us. He tells us to seek out a mentor, to seek help and we say oh I’m cool! I got this but as time goes on we get accustom to functioning dysfunctional. John 16:13 says "But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come.

Overcomer, let’s declare that this is no longer us! We are conquerors and we are delivered for being dysfunctional!

Affirmation I will no longer let my past of dysfunction rob me of my present. I affirm that….

I will be intentional in working on becoming better and releasing dysfunction.

I will forgive those who need to be forgiven including myself for causing dysfunction in my life.

I will commit myself to positive growth and change.

I will seek a mentor without any shame if I feel that I need one to assist me with my changes.

I will identify with who I am called to be and my God ordained purpose and not my past pain.I am committed to walking in purpose on purpose.

I will commit to being a better functioning person which will allow me to be a better spouse, mother, sister, friend, employee and community member. I am committed to using the tools that I have been blessed with and using my God given gifts.

I will be more accepting that we are not all the same and respect other people’s differences.I will be more adaptable and step out of my comfort zone which is behind the wall I have constructed.

I will be coachable, approachable, committed and confident.

I will not seek validation from others in order to thrive. I am God’s beloved and that is my only true identity.

Even though we are many things — parents, ministry leaders, entrepreneurs, sinners and saints, God only sees us as one thing: His beloved.

I will Be Optimistic, I will Be Open-Minded and I am an Overcomer.
