Today’s uplift; STAND! Adversity can be described as a series of unfortunate events. Just when it seems that things are going right in your life, something can happen to change your perspective. It can be something as small as failing a test or something so overwhelming as an unexpected job loss in a Pandemic that seem to just shake your world. Someone once penned “Adversity is another way to measure the greatness of individuals. I never had a crisis that didn't make me stronger”.
Sometimes when we are confronted with adverse situations, we may want to throw up our hands and surrender. At other times, we may say “oh well” and keep it moving. And then there will come times, when you want to give up and give in. It is in those times when what we are made of, will surely be tested. It is in those times that we are to STAND! Ephesians 6:13-14 “Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place”. Whether you realize it or not, adversity in your life is sometimes necessary for your spiritual development. There will be times when it becomes inevitable for us all too truly see just how strong the Word of God is embedded in our everyday lives. It may also be a necessary process in order for us to move to the next level in our spiritual growth. It is at those times that we must learn to depend on God even more than we already do. The reality of most individuals is that when things are going well in our lives, we become complacent with where we are and that place may not be where God necessarily wants us to be. Being a part of the Body of Christ is being willing to be stretched so that we become more like Him and less like the world. John 3:30 “He must increase, but I must decrease.” It is at times like these, that we must learn to Stand in the face of adversity! Have you ever faced the kind of adversity that crushed you to your soul and left you feeling paralyzed and numb? Have you ever felt so lost that it seemed as if there was no way out of the dark hole? I have experienced this kind of pain in my past and let me tell you it was not a good place. I felt unsure about everything in my life! I thought that I had already faced adversity and overcome it. I had battled illness, a family murder and parental abuse and yet I had endured. It wasn’t until several years later that my biggest challenge was about to stare me straight in the eyes and make me buckle at the knees; multiple relationship turmoil’s that almost took me out! But God! You see God had a different plan for my life. God mercifully and lovingly allows trials to discipline, guide, and develop us. Such trials will, in the end, work to our advantage as impurities are removed, leaving behind only that which is lasting and precious.
In order to move forward from any kind of challenge you must make the decision that you want more out of this life than just settling for your present condition. You could choose to quit and give up when adversity strikes or you can STAND! Don’t succumb to the hard knocks of life by becoming either fearful, anger or worse a strong dislike of yourself. Make a conscious decision to not give up, to move forward, to honor yourself, and most of all to live! Once you have made that conscious decision, it does not necessarily imply that you will experience smooth sailing from this point forward. However, it usually means that you will do whatever it takes to make the most out of your life, no matter what obstacles come your way.
The thing about life changing events is that they tend to leave you feeling naked and a little fearful, but fear and faith do not go together! Let God have it! He is able to handle it. Think of it this way; when you make a purchase of something costly you totally take care of it, well Jesus has already purchased us by His blood, so we will be totally taken care of!
In order move forward you must do one very important thing: make a change. As painful as adversity can be, it also can be a catalyst for forcing you to change something within your life. Consider what change seems to be staring you in the face. Why is that change being presented to you and how do you feel about it? I read once that “to live is to choose well, you must know who you are and what you stand for, where you want to go and why you want to get there”!
With that change in mind, write down a clear goal. Map out a plan of action to make that goal a reality. What steps do you need to take each day in order to move forward, clear past the adversity and change your life for the better? Be sure to take at least one step each day to move towards your new goal and honor the process! Change is not easy and overcoming adversity is a process and a journey. I believe it is important to honor that process and accept its ups and downs. There is no one quick-fix to make you feel better. You must go along with this ride and accept this process as a part of your journey.
If I can leave you with one positive thought it would be that even when life changes and you must deal with great pain there is always light around the corner and that light has a name; it is Jesus. John 8:12 “Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
Over comer, take the time you need to find that light. When you wake up each morning, tell yourself that “Today, I will move forward one little step at a time.” Stand on His Word… Stand on His Promises and Stand on His love for you!!
Be Optimistic; Be Open Minded; Be an Over comer!!
Love Min. P.
